- Are honest and intelligent, never get involved in politics;

- Are honest and do politics, are definitely not intelligent;

- Do politics and are intelligent, without any doubt,they are not at all honest.

Yeah , some of us got it already. You are like close friends and everything , share a daily cup of wine and blame the French for the crisis. Or the Canadians . Let’s not mention insignificat countries now , shall we?

But will you at least have the decency not to show several thousand people how easily someone can become an asshole. Especially when the mother whale you work for is evangelizing change and open views

It’s been a few years since and only now I can say the desktop-web sync aproaches what I call the ultimate rich application experience.

Why? Because I read online . Because I listen to music on my notebook and then , when I don’t own a particular song I go to last.fm , blip.fm , eOk ( no , don’t be evil , it’s not only patriotism , I just enjoy listening to …Tudor Gheorghe  from time to time) . And last but not least , I develop online.Oh , and let’s not forget that I want the browser to move as fast as possible.

Put all of the above and you’ll end up with a Firefox eating up to 1.4GB of ram. I mean , even with 3 GB total you’d still feel it! So I decided to split everything.

Here’s a couple of cool stuff I’ve been using lately to achieve this.

1) development: Clean FFox 3.0 profile with web developer toolbar and firebug.

2) Music experience : Mozilla’s Songbird with some add-ons for last.fm , twitter and stumbleupon

3) News/Blogs scouting: this is tricky. I have been asking a few days ago which RSS reader you use. After testing a couple of clients myself , I ended up tuning a customized version of Google Reader using Helvetireader Greasemonkey script & Mozilla Prism. Here’s a quick look:

4) Lightspeed browsing : Of course , Chrome would be the best candidate , if only it were more customizable. yet again I ended up cooking a FireChrome based on Minefield (beta version of ffox , nightly build of Oct 27th) . Why Minefield? because it has built-in Tracemonkey JS VM ( benchmark and config here). And it looks like this:

2008 . a decade and a half of Internet existence and only a couple of years of what we call Web 2.0 ( or .. whatever)  It has been pointed out on numerous occasions that in Romania the web’s still at 0.5 stage. Despite that we found ourselves surrounded by thousands of webtools designed to make communication easier.

People started using them , first for personal reasons , until they realized they can be used on a larger scale. The business scale. Then came up the trend. Millions of entities seeking more and more followers , evangelizing the masses , trying hard to reach a broader audience day by day. All united towards one single purpose: turning leads into actions. Visits to sales. Brand awareness . People , people , it’s all about the people.

Some of you out there may do it because you feel it’s the right thing. Some of you may be hired to do it. There are even some who are spamming their way up to the targeted audience. Yay! Our company has 120k followers on 6 different media channels. Now what?

I’ll get back down to earth to the 2 things that get me started on this post. As you may be aware , I am an avid technology consumer. Yeah , that kind of customer some small companies would kill for. The little guy the Chief whatever Officer had in mind when he first spoke to the marketing guy when he thought about the new campaign.

Take that and the year 2008 and you’ll easily see why communication is an everyday issue for me. So I point my finger to the ones providing me that . And no , I’m not going to talk here about RDS who hardly closes a support ticket in 29 days . Maybe it would be a good idea for them to use Twitter as a support channel.  I will talk about the 2 major players in the market : Orange and Vodafone.

Now , both the companies have … Twitter accounts : here’s Orange’s and Vodafone’s. Looking at orange’s account I notice there’s a little copyright on the left (that sounds funny ) which tells me the account is part of a global corporate policy to target the online audience. Vodafone seems to try a little more personal approach. And when I say that I think of the DMs and @ Tweets replied to . ( I’m not going to judge now orange’s web 1.0 behavior – post info with no interaction involved , neither I’m going to comment Vodafone’s way-too-formal addressing)
