Actually, it’s things, since by the time I was writing the title some other thing came to my mind.
So let’s see, you check in at some place. Foursquare says “Swing by and say hi!” I say: “don’t swing by if I’m in a business meeting, I might not care you came”
That was evil, but honestly I declare the winner of the Geo Wars the first Geolocation service that adds mood features.
Here’s a hint of what I’m talking about (click to enlarge):
Tell my friends when I’m in the pub looking forward to meeting people, or warn them if it’s a bad moment. You do that and this gets 100% more fun than just winning badges or points or whatever.
Tip: you can acquire this wonderful startup Romanian designer and entrepreneur Dan Berte built.
Second thing. Brightkite, Loopt, Gowalla, Foursquare, you all gather users’ Twitter and Facebook accounts don’t you? Why not have this option of auto-checkin.
Tweets are geolocated, so are FB updates when posted from mobile besides there’s always a choice to get EXIF data from photos posted if there’s a link to one. I know, it’s a bit too early for this since there’s not a big DB of venues/places/spots but thinking a bit in the future, I’d dig such a feature! And if I were to think of the best candidate for it, it would definitely be Gowalla with their “elastic GPS”.
